Cycling shorts! You either love them or hate them by now but if you have no opinion about them yet , I am here to make you want to wear them or if you hate them I ‘d like to make you reconsider.
If you are an avid user of social media and you follow fashion accounts you must have noticed by now that everyone is talking about cycling shorts this season.
They have been around though since at least last year but they have slowly been coming into our lives and now they are almost everywhere .
British Vogue wrote all about them in the April print issue with many examples of how you would potentially wear them and a nice look in the fashion history behind them.
For me , it is the second time round though in my lifetime that I am supporting them , the first time being in the 90’s when I was almost a teenager when they first came out . Back then though I also had a quiff ( some fashion blogger 😂) .
Of course , I am really enjoying the trend for a second time round . In my attempt to convince you I am just also going to tell you that you really don’t need to have super slim or super toned legs to put your cycling shorts on , I have neither . Also just take a moment to appreciate the perfection that is Lillian Ahenkan aka @flex.mami and for me no cycling shorts outfit can ever surpass this one – at least for the time being- and she created this one as part of the outfit recipe for The Man Repeller and this was last year .
What about myself though . To be honest I do feel super conservative if I am to compare myself with the above outfit but I am also preparing another one featuring my pink cowboy Ganni boots so stay tuned !
For this blogpost I shot two outfits using classic black cycling shorts and a pair of denim ones too . The first outfit was more of a sporty version and the second one was a going out one , going for dinner version and I just wanted to show the flexibility of them and how much you can create with just one central piece . Then a third outfit happened when I was just about to publish this so it is now included at the end of this post!
So let’s take a look at the first one …
Wearing a H&M jacket ( which literally goes with everything) , a t-shirt which I bought from the male section of urban outfitters , my Balenciaga triple S and my Valentino Rockstud, sunglasses by Cutler and Gross.
For the second outfit i tried to combine a few of the currents trends , i.e. cycling shorts , headband , shell anklet and I am so happy I wore my Chanel heels again after a very long time…
The Denim cycling shorts are from Primark , my blouse is Carven from many seasons ago , the jacket is Mascob ( last season) , the belt is Dolce and Gabanna again from quite a few years ago ,my headband is from Urban Outfitters , sunglasses are Celine and handbag and shoes are Chanel. As listed above this second outfit contains a lot of items that have been present in my wardrobe for many years . I felt this was an important message to pass because sustainability in fashion and recycling and the movement against fast fashion are all close to my heart right now and it’s a constant work in progress from my side.So now, for the last outfit of this post which is basically making a bit of a guest appearance here , I went more daring in my choice of shorts and chose animal print which I paired with a classic white shirt and classic strappy black sandals .
I wore this to a date night this week and although my husband was initially ( last year) so against cycling shorts ( i.e.: ” i hope you’re not wearing these anywhere else but the gym”) he has now warmed up to them and actually liked the outfit .
Shirt and shorts : H&M , shoes : Saint LaurentI do hope you have enjoyed this blogpost , I also hope that I have managed to convince you to at least try them once .I am waiting for all your comments and If you decide to wear cycling shorts after this , do tag me in your pics , I will be very excited to see them and I will repost all of them too .
See you next time with hopefully neon cycling shorts on 🙂
